Abbo Relieved to Record Victory
Hinckley AFC manager Carl Abbott was relieved to collect a long awaited three points in the league at Pilkington XXX on Saturday.
Despite having the better of matches, Hinckley hadn’t won a league game since August, but Abbott now feels that the side can build on the win. Speaking after the match, he said : ‘Yes, it is (a relief).
‘We won on Tuesday, and I think that did the trick in relieving some of the tension.
‘You could still feel some tension, that little bit of nervousness, when they got their goals, but that will eek out of us as we move forward and hopefully string some results together.
‘It’s brilliant for the away support, which was amazing today. They created a great atmosphere.’
Hinckley take another break from league action next Saturday, when they face divisional rivals Bolehall Swifts in the Les James Challenge Cup. After his side’s start in the league, Abbott says that they will attempt to go as far as they can in the cup competitions.
‘The cups are a priority to us. With the start that we’ve had, with certainly hamstrung ourselves in the league.
‘I’ve set the lads a points target, and that will remain between me and the boys. I believe that we’ll meet that points target and where that will take us I’m not sure.
‘We haven’t got the right to be talking about doing things in the league now, it’s about meeting the target and seeing where that takes us.
‘The cups have now become a priority. It’s a league cup competition, and with there are no games that we can’t win that I’ve seen so far with the way we’ve played in the league, so that’s going to be a priority now.’
