Heather St John’s 1-3 Hinckley AFC

Hinckley AFC retained the Simon Blyth Memorial Trophy after coming from behind to beat Heather St John’s.

Much like on the day they won the Division One title in April, Hinckley scored three times to win at St John’s Park but this time they had to overcome a half-time deficit to overcome their county rivals and keep the trophy in south-west Leicestershire.

Kai Thomas’ neat finish put the home side ahead midway through the first half, and gave them a half-time advantage with Hinckley not creating too much in the way of clear-cut chances.

Adam Barber headed Hinckley level just past the hour mark, and Hinckley quickly turned the game on its head when substitute Elliot Edwards turned home from close range.

And AFC sealed the win late on when Jack Edwards added a third, to ensure Hinckley complete an unbeaten pre-season heading into next weekend’s competitive opener away to Eynesbury Rovers in the club’s first game in the United Counties Premier South.
