Hinckley AFC 3-3 Sutton Coldfield Town
A depleted Hinckley AFC produced a superb comeback to record a creditable 3-3 draw against higher level opposition in Sutton Coldfield Town.
In their final home pre-season game, Hinckley were missing seven players, and were 2-0 down at half time, only for an inspired half time substitution to change the game.
Justin Nisbett was the man who did the damage, scoring two goals and supplying the third, as Hinckley went 3-2 up with thirteen minutes remaining.
They couldn’t hold on to the lead, however, and an own goal from Hinckley’s stand-in goalkeeper gave the visitors a draw.
Only seven minutes had passed when Sutton Coldfield took the lead. The Hinckley defence was left in a state of confusion as Bekir Halil’s back header beat Matty Martin and rolled into the corner of the net. The goal was given, despite Hinckley being convinced of an offside.
Four minutes before half time, the visitors doubled their lead, when Richard Robinson conceded a free kick on the edge of the box that was converted by a trialist.
Hinckley changed their system at half time, bringing forward Nisbett on to replace left back Chris Sockett, and the substitute made an immediate impact.
After 49 minutes, Hinckley found themselves back in the game, when Nisbett latched onto Matt Bailey’s through ball and cleverly chipped the ball beyond stranded goalkeeper Lee Evans.
Hinckley levelled just past the hour mark, when Nisbett found himself one on one with Evans again, and he coolly slotted home again.
Soon after, Martin was forced to leave the field due to a head injury, which saw Sutton Coldfield’s substitute goalkeeper James Harrison replace him in Hinckley’s goal.
The comeback was complete after 77 minutes. Nisbett’s fantastic piece of skill in the corner saw him turn away from an opposing defender and square the ball for Bailey to drill a low shot into Evans’ bottom corner.
The frenetic second half’s scoring was completed two minutes from time, when Robinson sliced a clearance that beat the Harrison, but hit the post, then ricocheted off the unfortunate keeper and rolled over the line.
