Match Preview: Southam United (h)
Hinckley AFC will play a league game for the first time in almost a month this afternoon when Southam United visit St John’s Park, kick off 3pm.
Carl Abbott’s side haven’t played since Boxing Day’s 1-1 draw with Nuneaton Griff, and find themselves with at least one game in hand on each of the six sides above them.
And although a win tomorrow wouldn’t move AFC any further up the Midland League Division One table, it would go some way to closing the gap and applying pressure on those sides.
Sitting seventh, with 32 points from seventeen games, Abbott’s men will be hoping to replicate their second half of last season to try and finish in an FA Cup position.
After finishing seventh last season, this campaign has been one of transition for The Saints, who have scored the fewest goals in the league and as a result find themselves in eighteenth place, just four points above basement side Stafford Town.
Former Saints Tom Cross and Lee Thomas have both had an impressive start to life in a Hinckley shirt, and they will be looking to get one over on their former side to return their current club to winning ways.
AFC won both meetings between the sides last season, starting their season with a 3-0 triumph at Banbury Road and finishing it with a 5-1 win in the reverse fixture.
