Luke to Lead From the Front
As the team prepares to raise the curtain on the new season, the man trusted to wear the Captains’ Armband will now be Luke Richards, who takes over from JJ Melligan as Club Captain.
The powerful front man, already an influential member of the AFC squad, will now look to lead by example as skipper and one of the team’s main forward threats ahead of what looks set to be a very competitive Midland League Division One season.
The vice-captaincy will now be in the hands of central defender Alex Morris.
Melligan leaves the club having provided a wealth of experience and leadership in his 37 appearances for the club, scoring nine goals, and will remain very much a part of the club’s history as the first ever captain and goalscorer during our maiden season.
On his departure, JJ passed on his well wishes to the club via Facebook wishing all involved the best for the future.
Joining JJ is fellow founding player Avun Jephcott, who also leaves the club ahead of the new campaign.
Everyone at the club would like to thank JJ and Avun for their efforts on an AFC shirt on and off the pitch, and we wish them well for the future.
Richards will lead the team out as club captain for the first time proper this Saturday away to Cadbury Athletic.
