Asa Set to be All-Wright After Fan Backed Fitness Fight
The new season brings with it great optimism after a fine unbeaten run last term, but one man even more eager to be in amongst it this campaign is Asa Wright, returning following a lengthy spell on the sidelines with injury.
The midfielder made a surprise return to action as a late substitute during the 4-3 win at Quorn yesterday, making his first steps back to full fitness.
It has been a frustrating spell for the midfielder. After just seven appearances, Asa found himself ruled out following the recurrence of a long standing knee injury which threatened to curtail the 24-year-old’s spell at the club.
Helped in no small part by AFC supporters, whose late season bucket collection helped Wright with his initial rehabilitation, the player will be now looking to kick on and was quick to acknowledge the role that the club’s supporters have played in the route back so far.
Wright described the fans’ role on his recovery as ‘amazing’, expressing a gratitude in the support and also the encouragement given to him both on and off the pitch during his recovery.
We caught up with Asa following his appearance at Quorn and also got the opinions of Carl Abbott and Paul Tomlinson on the player’s return to the fold. You can hear from Carl, Paul and Asa on our YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OAwveDhziY
