Match Preview: Southam United (h)
The curtain closes on Hinckley AFC’s inaugural campaign later today as Carl Abbott’s side entertain Southam United in the final game of the season at St John’s Park, kick off 3pm.
Hinckley have come a long way since the last time the two teams met in the first league game back in August, when Luke Richards, JJ Melligan and Mark Bellingham gave AFC a 3-0 victory.
Southam beat Bolehall Swifts 3-1 on Thursday in Bolehall’s final game of the season, which gives AFC the opportunity to clinch third place in the Midland League First Division. If they can beat Southam by four clear goals, they will finish their first season in third place.
Today’s is The Saints’ final league game of the season, but they have two cup matches to contest in the coming weeks. They play Bromsgrove Sporting in the Les James Challenge Cup Final and Coventry Copsewood in the Coventry Charity Cup.
Southam lie in sixth place in the league, having won seven of their last eight games in all competitions. Their main threat is likely to be Louis Bridges, who has scored 32 goals in all competitions this season.
